BIG MEMORIES FOR LITTLE SYSTEMS

Macrotron’s SODIMMs Provide High Density Advantage For Mobile Users

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

FREMONT. CALIFORNIA, November 12, 2001 - Macrotron, a leader in the design, manufacture and testing of memory modules, is offering 512-Mbyte of synchronous monolithic DRAM in small-outline, dual-in-line memory modules (SODIMMs).

“Macrotron’s 512-Mbyte SODIMMs provide the highest density level available,” said Gordon Ting, chief technical officer of Macrotron. “The modules allow users to have as much memory on their mobile computers as desktop systems.”

Sixteen synchronous DRAM devices, 256 Mbits each, fit on the module. The 512-Mbyte devices comply with JEDEC requirements for memory packaging solutions for higher speed devices.  FBGA (Fine-pitch ball grid array), the JEDEC-standard, allows for connections with shorter line lengths from the actual packaged semiconductor die reducing speed-hogging noise.

The new line of modules will have a low-profile height of 1.125-inches required by the very thin (“Hyperdense”, “1U”, and “Blade”) server and telecom solutions. Macrotron says improved heat dissipation is a key plus to the new FBGA based SODIMMs.

The unbuffered devices also feature: 64-bit configuration, two memory banks, 3.3-volt power supply, a low self-refresh current, 144-pin zigzag dual tab with a 0.8 mm-lead pitch. The modules are compatible with several chipsets designed specifically for notebook applications.

The modules’ memory bus clock frequency functions at 133 MHz (PC133) or 100 MHz (PC100) with a CAS latency of 3 or 2, respectively. Both modules are supported by several chip sets designed for notebook applications. The PC133-compatible version and the PC100 version will be quoted upon request and are available now.  Macrotron has assigned part number MS9328L6464S-07 for PC133 and MS9328L6464S-08 for PC100.
